Mount Severn offers NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) training courses in a variety of areas from an introduction to NLP to a full certificate Practitioner course. We also utilise Neuro-Linguistic Programming in all of our corporate and team building training courses to enhance the quality of learning.
NLP is the study of the structure of highly effective human behaviour, that has produced an array of techniques and strategies to enable any individual to learn and apply the behaviour in order to be more effective in their lives.
NLP was first founded in the early 1970's by John Grinder and Richard Bandler who originally 'modelled' the behaviour and language patterns of two therapists (Fritz Pearls and Virginia Satir). By then copying those programmes or patterns of behaviour, they found they gained success in providing therapy to others.
Bandler and Grinder went on to model many effective behaviours in individuals including Milton Erickson, developing the Meta and Milton Models. NLP rapidly became an 'attitude and a methodology that leaves behind a trail of techniques' (John Grinder).
The crucial discovery was that all human behaviour has a structure and that how we think about things changes the way we behave externally. It is therefore possible to analyse any behaviour, including asking questions about what is going on internally and then copying that behaviour to be successful.
NLP now encompasses the techniques and processes that have developed as a result of modelling behaviour. but still has the attitude and methodology of modelling at it core.
